The Hon. Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime Minister, will welcome home the Australian WorldSkills Team, following their medal winning performance at the International WorldSkills Competition held in Canada last month.
The Skillaroos, representing the best and brightest young trainees and apprentices from across Australia, took to the world stage for a week of intense competition with 49 other countries, collecting a swag of 10 medals across 24 trade disciplines ranging from bricklaying to hairdressing.
Ms Gillard will join other distinguished guests at the official ‘Welcome Home Ceremony' held at Parliament House, rubbing shoulders with the young members of Team Australia and joining in the celebrations of yet another dominant performance by the Skillaroos at the biennial ‘Trade Olympics'.
Given the Government's recent announcement of increased funding and incentives for employers to take on apprentices, it's fitting for Ms Gillard to meet our latest breed of medal-winning apprentices.
The WorldSkills Australia team are 26 of Australia's best young tradespeople who have just competed against the best from around the world at the International WorldSkills Competition held in Calgary, Canada in September, 2009.
The Hon. Julia Gillard, Deputy Prime Minister will be addressing the team to congratulate them on a job well done and to hear some of the Skillaroos' tales of triumph.
Following the ceremony, Ms Gillard and members of the WorldSkills Australia Team will be available to participate in some photo opportunities.
